How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take?

From demo to the final walkthrough — a realistic timeline for guest, full, and primary bathroom remodels in DFW, plus the things that quietly add weeks.

A bathroom looks like a small room, so people assume it's a quick project. Then they're brushing their teeth in the kitchen sink for six weeks. Here's what a bathroom remodel timeline actually looks like — and why the small room can take longer than you'd expect.

The short answer

For most DFW bathrooms, plan on:

  • Guest / hall bathroom: 3–5 weeks of construction (plus 1–2 weeks of planning)
  • Primary bathroom: 5–8 weeks of construction (plus 2–4 weeks of planning)
  • Spa / luxury primary: 8+ weeks for wet rooms, custom glass, and high-end finishes

The "planning" weeks before construction matter just as much as the build — that's when selections get locked and materials get ordered.

Why a small room takes real time

A bathroom packs an unusual number of trades into a tight space, and most of the work has to happen in sequence — not at the same time:

  1. Demo (1–3 days)
  2. Rough-in — plumbing and electrical (3–5 days)
  3. Waterproofing — and this is the one you can't rush (2–3 days, including cure time)
  4. Tile — floors, walls, shower (4–8 days)
  5. Vanity, fixtures, glass, paint, and finishing (4–7 days)

The waterproofing and tile stages are where time goes. Done right, they protect your home for decades. Done fast, they cause the leaks we get called to fix later.

What quietly adds weeks

  • Custom glass. Frameless shower enclosures are measured after tile is set, then fabricated — often a 1–2 week wait.
  • Special-order tile or stone. Beautiful, but lead times can stretch. Order early.
  • Moving plumbing. Relocating the shower, toilet, or vanity adds rough-in work and sometimes a permit.
  • Older homes. Cast-iron drains and surprise water damage behind the old tile are common in established DFW neighborhoods.

How to keep it moving

The single biggest thing you can do: make your selections before demo starts. A remodel doesn't stall because of construction — it stalls waiting on a decision or a backordered tile. We front-load that work on purpose; you can see how in our process and typical project timelines.
